Label and logo artwork preparation
Winery and brewery logos are usually drawn for a paper label, a can or a website. Cellar Sign Studio checks that artwork at the size it will be engraved on a trophy, plaque or sign, and prepares a cleaner version when fine label detail would be lost.

What if your logo only exists as label artwork?
Send Cellar Sign Studio the label file from your designer or printer, or the largest image you have. Say which parts must survive: the name, a crest, a vine or hop drawing. We report whether it can be engraved as it is, simplified or redrawn. You compare the prepared version with the original before it is used.
Why does a competition seal need work before it goes on a trophy?
A regional guild runs a yearly judging and wants its round seal on every Wine & Beer Competition Trophy. The seal was drawn for a sticker: a ring of small text, a bunch of grapes shaded with fine dots and a ribbon with the year. On a sticker the size of a coin, printed in gold foil, it works. Engraved on the trophy's metal plate at about the same size, the dots merge and the ring of text becomes a rough circle. We redraw the grapes as solid shapes and set the guild name in a straight line under the seal. The year comes off the ribbon, since it is already engraved in its own field. Winning producers' logos get the same check.

Use the organizer's exact medal or placement and the correct entry name. A best-in-category award and an overall winner are different distinctions; the inscription should preserve the result that was actually awarded.

How is label art made ready for engraving?
01
Ask your label printer for the file
The designer or the print house that made your labels holds the original artwork. Request that file instead of scanning a bottle. A curved, glossy label photographed under bar lights is a poor starting point.
02
Say what the mark must keep
Tell us what makes the logo yours: the lettering, the crest, a bird or a barrel. Foil effects, color blends, shading dots and tiny legal text drop out at plaque size, and the main shapes stay.
03
Sign off the prepared version
Check the redrawn mark against the original, shape by shape and letter by letter. Once approved, it is stored with your order, ready for the next sign, nameplate or trophy that carries it.

Questions about label and logo artwork preparation
What if your logo only exists as label artwork?

Can a full-color label go on an engraved piece?
Engraving is a single tone, so a color label becomes a line version of itself. If the colors matter, a printed piece such as the Full-Color Tasting Menu Board can carry the label as it is. A venue can use both: the engraved mark on signs and awards, the color artwork on printed boards.
Can entrants' logos appear on competition trophies?
Yes, when each producer supplies its own file or agrees to its use. Collect the files with the entry forms if you can, since chasing logos after the judging slows everything down. A logo saved from a website is often too small, and we will say so before the proof.
Is redrawing a logo covered by the product estimate?
No. A redraw is extra design work, quoted on its own line. Cellar Sign Studio first tells you what the redraw involves, so you can decide whether to find a cleaner file instead. If your designer supplies clean vector art, there may be nothing to redraw at all.
Can we use a vine or hop drawing found online?
Only when the drawing is yours or its owner has given permission to reproduce it. If you like a style, describe it instead: an old botanical print, a bold woodcut, a single leaf. We can quote an original drawing along those lines, which keeps your sign from sharing clip art with the bar down the road.
